Dossier iterations

Some examples of the iterations I went through on a page of the dossier

Poster iterations

I'm not sure why but the poster seemed to be the thing I struggled with the most. I'll maybe start with the poster next time The final design:

Mug/pot prototypes

I made prototypes for the pot and mug combo by carving the shapes out of green foam, which is quite hard and great for sanding down. Then with Jake's help from my cross studio exchange group we vacuum formed the vessels out of plastic. It was really cool seeing this process and really fun to work with some physical materials.  It took a few attempts to get it right  I tried a couple of different shapes, the typical rounded cup form and a more square pot plant looking shape. I personally preferred the square one but got far more positive feedback on the round shapes, perhaps because they're familiar or feel more organic. After discussing with Jake about what the best materials might be to use we I decided I'd prefer to have them done in ceramic. I was unable to get a hold of the pottery turn table in time, otherwise I would've made these properly.

Cross studio exchange group

https://www.facebook.com/groups/132346794028356/ The first time we met up was just kind of awkward. Introduced ourselves, found out who was in our group. Only a few of us actually showed up. I had to dash off early but I was told not much else happened after I left. I think it was just too early in our design stages to really do much. The second time wasn't a lot better. Again only a few of us met up. Someone from another group joined us because they couldn't find their own and it was really helpful having him there. We were two VCD (myself and Ting), one Fashion (Jing) and one Industrial (Jake) with the new guy. He gave some really great advice and ideas to Jing on production and time saving tools, explaining how to access and use a laser cutter so he doesn't have to cut out his 600 fabric flowers by hand. Between meet ups I later approached Jake about his advice on materials and methods for making my cup and pot prototype. He gave me some really great advice then to...

ExperiMint

Wanted to see for myself how easy it would be to grow mint indoors and whether or not the stems grow roots in water. Turns out they do. They grow really well inside with minimal lighting and the roots grow off little sprigs in water after about 7-10 days. From there it's really simple just to pot them and keep growing it. Easiest transfer ever, gives you a better head start than growing from a seed and is much more reliable. Were this to be a start up company this would be how to produce all the mint plants to package up and send out. Also, I'm an avid peppermint tea drinker already. I usually drink it daily but although I've got multiple species of mint in my garden I've never made tea from it before. Holy moses! Fresh Apple Mint tea is so delicious. Only needed a few leaves and the drink was packed with sweet flavour
